North Cities Quilt Guild

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

April 24th
I hope your Easter was lovely and inspirational. This is always such an uplifting time of year to me.
If you have some spare time I hope you will contact Becky Sproul and see if you can help her with taking our Opportunity Quilt to various guilds. Road trips are the best and so much fun to see what everyone else is doing.
Nancy Rink will be joining us for the April meeting to share her love of applique and has planned a workshop to help us enhance our machine applique skills. I can't wait as I'm not as good at that as I would like to be.
In May we are fortunate enough to have Carol Stapleton for 2 days on the 16th and 23rd. Her purses are spectacular and if at all possible you should really try to participate in this one in a lifetime workshop.
We will be refreshing our By-Laws so if you are a Committee chair or officers please go over the section of the yearbook that speaks to your current job. If you have suggestions please send them to Rita Jones by June 1st. We need to make sure jobs haven't changed or if they have that we adjust the descriptions to have our By-Laws be relevant.
We will be looking for new board members soon so please don't be afraid to offer your services in any area that may interest you. We do love our volunteers.
Last but certainly not least ... have you bought your ticket for the May luncheon. I would hate for you to miss such a wonderful occasion. Please see Joanne Burkhart at the meeting for your ticket.
Thank you for sharing your love of quilting
Kim Beckley

FRIENDSHIP GROUPS

What is a Friendship Group? It is a great place to make new friends and learn new skills and improve techniques. Friendship groups are formed by members of the guild and each group has their own meeting schedule and focus.
Interested in joining or starting a new Friendship Group? Please see Fran Matthews at her table.

PHILANTHROPY

We made our goal! We have collected 200 pillowcases and a fairly large number of quilts to present at our April meeting when Kasaan Hammon, the Vision Promotion Director at Camp Alandale will be there to give a brief talk about Camp Alandale. I know she will be amazed at all your hard work!
The donations I received at the March meeting were out of sight! Just a few of those I "caught" dropping off donations were Dolores Gilbert, Becky Sproal, Suzanne Jennings, Elaine Fonts, Diane Fisher, Vicki Johns, Marcia Pittman, Carole Harter, Betty Ann Lawson, Verna Wheeler, and Mary Squire. Anna Lee has been busy this past few weeks adding binding to two more quilts for Camp Alandale. Thanks again to everyone who stepped forward and pitched in to help this project succeed.
I'll be bringing a bin of scraps to our guild meeting so be prepared to hunt for treasures!
Rita Jones

UFO CHALLENGE

Hi Fellow UFO Challengers,
This month will be an easy month for you as there will be no turn in of projects at the meeting. The next turn in is June 26th and don't forget that July will be a turn in month also.

Sell Opportunity Tickets or go Wine Tasting?
Why not do both?

Traveling 495 miles round trip to Paso Robles to visit the Almond Country Quilters was, yes, a big trip, but sew much fun!
This month will be an easy month for you as there will be no turn in of projects at the meeting. The next turn in is June 26th and don't forget that July will be a turn in month also.
If you can help with one of our "Opportunity Quilt Selling Adventures", let me know. Make it a "mini vacation, visit friends/relatives, or just do a road trip with a quilting buddy and visit some quilt shops on the way! You will find gracious and welcoming quilters at every venue. Walk in with a quilter from the parking lot. The quilt stand bag, notebook and ticket bag slung over your shoulder, and wheeling the travel case containing our "Tulip Time" quilt, she will gladly escort you to the meeting room, introduce you to the President, and become your best friend for the evening.
Here are some of our upcoming dates and venues to share our opportunity quilt and sell tickets to their members.
April 25-27 - Central Coast Quilters and Old Town Quilters in Nipomo
May 9 - Camarillo
May 11 - El Camino Quilters in Vista
May 15 - Conejo Valley Quilters in Thousand Oaks
May 17 - Kaleidoscope Quilt Guild in Lemon Grove
June 5 - Cactus Sew-ables in Yucca Valley
June 10 - Kings River in Clovis
June 13 - Orange County Quilt Guild
June 19 - Busy Bears in Big Bear Lake
August 4-5 - Big Bear Lake Quilt Show
...and more!
Each guild member is asked to purchase/sell $25 in opportunity tickets. (spoiler alert to my friendship group), I give an opportunity ticket in place of a birthday card/gift tag and enclose tickets to my out of town/country relatives in their cards and wha-la! The tickets are gone and I need to buy more for me!
Our opportunity quilt is an easy and major fundraiser for our guild. The lucky winner will be drawn in September so we have lots of time to sell tickets. Take the quilt on your next group gathering and help us raise funds for our upcoming programs and workshops.
Thanks so much for your support! And yes, I did enjoy a lovely bottle of red!

The Last Update for Spring Luncheon 2017

I can't believe April will be the last meeting to buy Luncheon tickets, but the calendar doesn't lie. If you would like tickets, but won't be at the meeting just send me a check made out to NCQG.
My address is 275 S. Via Montanera, Anaheim Hills, Ca. 92807, tickets are $35.00/person.
Since the reserved seating plan for 2016 seemed to work well we will be repeating it. There are only a certain number of tables available to us. So people needing to reserve whole tables please get your tickets early. If you have a party of two or three and wish to sit together let me know when you purchase your ticket.
Display Quilts Needed - These are the quilts which hang around the room. Pick up entrance forms, please fill them out and attach them to your quilt when it is delivered. They go to Rita Jones and are due April 24.
Showcase Quilts and Projects - Remember we are highlighting all projects quilters make like-pillows, totes, wearables, placemats sewing accessories etc. These items need to reflect the theme "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and reflect the enjoyment (or not) you had making the quilt or project. Examples:
A Mystery Quilt gone bad
A "what was I thinking" quilt
A waste of time & money project
The "dog ate half my quilt" quilt
I inherited this mess, now what? (UFO'S by others)
Any quilt using panels from one of the "comical quilters" series by various designers like Amy Bradley.
These all need to be turned in by Monday, April 24 to Joanne Burkhart as they will be a featured part of the program. This is shaping up to be a really fun event, don't miss out!
